Math
Newsletter attached... We are working on addition to 1000 in grade 2 and number bonds in grade 1.
Reading
This week Guided Reading began. Each child meets almost daily with me in a small group. During guided
reading I pick the leveled book appropriate for your child. During reading we work on strategies that
specifically target what your child needs to quickly move on to the next reading level.
Writing
This week we continued working on stamina in our writing. We stayed at our seats and focused on the
writing task. We also worked on adding more descriptions to our writing so it is more interesting for the
reader. We learned that writers brainstorm, make a draft, revise, edit and then publish a piece of work.
However, we learned that not every author publishes every piece. Some pieces are left in our “works in
progress” area of our writing folder.
Supplies Needed:
We are looking for snack donations for the classroom. We also need disinfectant wipes if you have a tub or
two to share.
Volunteers:
I love having volunteers in my classroom. Please e-mail me if you would like to volunteer. We have:
Monday Mystery Readers every Monday from 9:45-10am except Sept. 30 and October 28th available.
Please tell me what Monday you would like to come. We also are looking for Math volunteers to come
weekly from 8:15-9:15. Last, we are looking for reading volunteers to come every week from 9:45-10:30.
Right now Thursday is taken for reading volunteers.
